As other sequels underperfromed this summer, The Conjuring 2 [CNJU2] proved an exception with an estimated opening weekend leading $40.4 million, nearly matching the first film's $41.9 million. The horror film connected with fans that were 52% females and 57% over the age of 25.
Warcraft [WARCF] finished second with $24.4 million. The videogame adaptation skewed 64% males and 64% over 25.
Now You See Me 2 [NYSM2] debuted at the third spot with $23.0 million, down from $29.4 million of the original film. The magic-based actioner drew 54% female and 55% over 25.
After one week at the top, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows [TMNT2] dropped 58% to $14.8 million.
X-Men: Apocalypse [XMEN6] rounded out the top five with $10.0 million to bring its total to $136.4 million.
