The Memorial Day holiday weekend is shaping up to be the best ever at the box office. Lilo & Stitch [LILST] leads the charge with an estimated $145.5 million Friday to Sunday and $183.0 million through Monday, breaking the record of 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, which opened to $126.7 million and $160.5 million respectively. Disney’s live-action remake attracted an audience that was 62% female.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning [MISS8] opened in second place with a franchise best $63.0 million. 2018’s Fallout held the previous high at $61.2 million. Paramount’s 4-day estimate is $77.0 million. Males over 25 made up the biggest quadrant at 52%, followed by females over 25 at 32%.
Last weekend’s champ, Final Destination Bloodlines [FDES6] finished third at $19.65 million, down 62% from its opening. The 4-day estimate of $24.50 advances the sum to $94.63 million.
Thunderbolts* [TBOLT] grossed another $9.2 million. The 4-day estimate of $11.5 million has totaled $173.7 million after 4 weekends.
The Last Rodeo [TLROD] opened with $5.27 million over 3-day and $6.27 million over 4-day. The film earned an A CinemaScore from its audience.
Expanding wide to 1055 theaters, Friendship [FNSHP] earned $4.59 million. The 4-day estimate of $5.74 million brings the cumulative total t0 $8.39 million.
Hurry Up Tomorrow [HUTMR] tumbled 78% from its opening to $740K. The 4-day estimate of $930K brings the tally to $5.0 million.
