STX is a good gig and he's got great taste. They are well funded and have smartly gotten heavily into TV

but my negativity comes with them celebrating a model which is full of recent failure while being critical of one thats working. Its the worst kind of PR. They havent set the world on fire.

Bad Moms is gonna make some dough for them. But it was a struggle. They changed their whole strategy mid campaign when it was the simplest of campaigns. It has a very specific, very eager audience. Show them the movie is what they want. It's weird it was so hard for them.

And they have bet a lot of Edge of Seventeen (especially giving toronto a bundle of money for the closing night spot) and moved it against the new Harry Potter movie. Does that seem insane to everyone else? Forget Desierto, they know that was a mistake and they arent giving it any support and have moved away from acquistions. Their other 2016 titles are genre and could both be profitable if they are well liked.

So their first two years looks similar to Relativity, Open Road, CBS Films, Overture, TWC etc etc. Maybe a bit better cause of Bd Moms. I get why they are doing a puff piece now (Bad Moms, big hit, we rule!) but its also transparent. Its silly to be saying this stuff they are saying (the folks who will read this is mostly industry) when the jury is still out.

BI: Adam Fogelson talks STX strategy. The Foreigner to open in November [FRGNR] Antibody Aug 16, 10:38

why are they referring to global box office when they dont handle international theatrical distribution yet? Moviesnob Aug 16, 11:05

or that somehow Universal is without franchises (Fast & Furious, Despicable Me/Minions?) {nm} notfabio Aug 16, 12:01

Jurassic Park! its telling that they couldn't get the trades for their PR puff piece. {nm} Moviesnob Aug 16, 12:08

nice little pr for dh theaters on front page of usa today life section today {nm} islander Aug 16, 12:42

yup, thanks for checking it out! DHF gets a tiny call out too {nm} Moviesnob Aug 16, 12:45

I think he's only talking about the time he was there - and while Universal had franchises during that time (Bourne, Meet the Parents, RogerMore Aug 16, 12:52

Fogelson was let go cause he couldnt develop franchises that worked for the entire world Moviesnob Aug 16, 13:00

but of course the irony is he should get the credit for Uni's 2015 {nm} Moviesnob Aug 16, 13:01

OK, that makes sense. He couldn't get them going, and someone else has. (Probably makes him a good fit for STX, at least) {nm} RogerMore Aug 16, 13:05

Your assessment of the BM strategy is wrong RupertPupkin Aug 16, 15:14

what they sold at Cinema Con and what they went with were different and they said so to us {nm} Moviesnob Aug 16, 15:21

Ok. That is not my experience with the marketing or what they said. {nm} RupertPupkin Aug 16, 15:24
