V: Paramount moves up 'True Grit' to Dec. 22 [TGRIT]

The Coen brothers' "True Grit" remake will ride into theaters three days earlier than expected on Dec. 22.
Paramount had originally intended to open the Matt Damon-Jeff Bridges-Josh Brolin westerner on Christmas Day, which falls on a Saturday this year.
Move means "True Grit" can take advantage of the lucrative pre-Christmas frame. But it also means the film faces more competition.
Also opening nationwide on Dec. 22 are 20th Century Fox's 3D pic "Gulliver's Travels" and Universal's "Little Fockers." "True Grit" could serve as counter-programming in being the only adult-skewing drama.
"True Grit" now opens less than a week after Paramount and Relativity's "The Fighter" expands nationwide on Dec. 17.
"True Grit" is produced by Scott Rudin Prods. and Skydance Prods. Producers are Rudin, Ethan Coen and Joel Coen. Steven Spielberg is exec producing.
