Cane toads are a big problem in the north, but not down when a4j lives
They're an introduced species that has really made itself at home, and they're destroying lots of small native fauna as they spread across the continent. There will be a point where we have them everywhere, eventually, but not yet. Each year they reach further west and further south. If you want to see a real horror show, I can recommend this somewhat legendary doco about them, if you can track it down:

Roos do get systematically culled (shot) in farming areas, because they like the grassland and farming has created more of that environment; and if you hit one with your car, you might write it off, so yeah, they might be a bit comparable to the deer thing. People are pretty unsentimental about the roos.
