Yes, I do live in Australia. We have quite a few spiders that we find sometimes in, but mostly around the house. I don't know how it managed to get in, but we found a baby tarantula (not all that big at the time) inside the house, just before it was about to land on my brother's head while he was playing video games one day. Most of the spiders we find are either daddy long legs spiders, redback spiders, occasionally huntsman spiders, and some kind of orb spider that likes to make its web in between trees etc. Makes it frustrating if we walk through it without noticing, because then we're frantically brushing ourselves off, trying to get rid of the web and the spider.
The only thing that we do to stop the spread of spiders in and around our house is to spray the outside with pesticide occasionally, and to kill the ones we find running around inside (not as common as you may think). Spiders are more often found inside my dad's shed (simply because he has so much crap inside it's not funny and the spiders can roam wherever they please... almost).
One day my grandfather got bitten by a redback spider that had crawled into his work boot during the night, and my grandmother got him to go to the doctor (he protested quite a bit against it, because he didn't really see the need). The doctor took a look at him and said "You'll suffer nausea, pain in the stomach, dizziness, etc", and Pa said "Can I go back to work now?" The doctor said "Oh, if you must." Pa was sick that night, but he was better in a day or so.
No, we don't really come across scorpions at all. It's mostly just spiders that we find.
The main problem that we have is actually snakes. Most of the snakes that we come across are red-belly black snakes or brown snakes (both venomous types). One of them almost killed one of our dogs before. Dad's had to kill about 5 of them that we found actually slithering through our yard, and one at the church we attend (just before it went inside the children's church room when all the kids were inside). We've found a few others that we have given to the local "snake man" (he relocates them to places with rodent problems).
Just makes you want to move to Aus, don't it?
