...I still think Joe Kittinger has the edge on Baumgartner. Kittinger flew 52 years ago in an open gondola, with a much smaller support network, a failed pressure seal in his right glove that caused his hand to swell up, no "space" suit, so he was really pushing the envelope. Is climbing Everest with a support network monitoring your every step impressive? It's certainly an achievement, but it's not what Hillary & Tenzing (or Mallory & Irvine) faced back in the day. Still, Baumgartner went higher and faster than anyone before him, so...
