wow, no more NCAA College Football video games
The NCAA announced Wednesday it is not renewing its licensing contract with Electronic Arts for a college football video game.
In a statement, the association said that because of "the current business climate and costs of litigation, we determined participating in this game is not in the best interests of the NCAA."
The NCAA and EA are co-defendants in an anti-trust suit concerning the use of college athletes' names and likenesses that is pending before a federal district court. EA is the defendant in two other cases pertaining to the use of athletes' likenesses that have reached the federal appellate level.
The NCAA said its current contract with EA expires in June 2014, "but our timing is based on the need to provide EA notice for future planning. As a result, the NCAA Football 2014 video game will be the last to include the NCAA's name and logo."
