it is unfair to compare tv contracts between SJ and Toronto (or NY or LA). I'm sure $7mil is bad, but the questions is, what is it worth?

How much is Nashville's? How much does SJ get from the NHL rev share?

And there are ways to compensate for a bad TV deal. Doing well in the playoffs is one, but its SJ so lets forget about that ever happening (see what I did there).

One thing the owner of the Caps has done is start his own broadcast network with the goal of creating a cable channel. Caps (and Wizard) TV rights are owned (like SJ) by Comcast, but he's exploiting other content until the Caps rights become avail (5 years) and the Wiz (10 years). Its a very similar to what the MSG network has done in NY. The own the arena, they can create content based on what play in the arena plus other content from the caps and wizards. And when they get both the Caps and Wiz rights, it'll be a license to print money.

The core of this that TV revenue is a core part of how teams are making money, but the NHL has created a decent rev share syhstem for smaller market teams and there are other ways of making money if you are creative.Ā

Maybe the fastest growing city in Canada could use a team {nm} islander Jun 19, 12:53

Too Funny. Totally Hilarious. Almost had the St. Louis Blues in 1983 (Not Really) - Story attached. RotoHockeyYTD2014 Jun 19, 17:30

Ahhh, the Checkerdome - great memories. I don't remember the situation being quite that dire - but that was in the summer so I was probably JDolphin Jun 20, 17:16

If the Sharks move, it'll be up the bay to Santa Clara as mentioned in the article or San Francisco in the new Warriors arena. {nm} Antibody Jun 19, 19:03

We know what PSHOF's Zen Master would say about that. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2014 Jun 19, 20:02

One who posts last wins? Not. The NHL is not moving out of the sixth largest TV market in the US. {nm} Antibody Jun 20, 09:12

Hmmm - 8th, 17th, 18th Largest (GONE) - 10th, 14th, 19th, 20th Largest (Not There) - Ticket $$ Most Important. RotoHockeyYTD2014 Jun 20, 10:12

Sharks 17th in Attendance for 2013-14. Phoenix Bottom-Of-The-Bucket. RotoHockeyYTD2014 Jun 20, 10:20

Phoenix 12th largest TV market. {nm} Antibody Jun 20, 10:36

By your attendance logic, NHL would have moved out of Phoenix rather than insist on staying. {nm} Antibody Jun 20, 10:38

It's going to Happen - they can't keep up those Losses. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2014 Jun 20, 12:35

The nhl doesnt own the team anymore and the new ownership was contingent on keeping the team in PHO {nm} Moviesnob Jun 20, 14:57
