Ratings. Pure and simple. Cable TV News does not report on anything that will not bring and KEEP eyeballs. They loved their ratings after
the Ferguson events, and are front and center every time it happens again.
The reason white people being shot by non-white cops is not a national story is because nobody not directly involved with those peoples' lives would watch it for more than a moment.
Here is how to stop ALL sensational news coverage of certain types of events:
STOP WATCHING THEM ON TV. STOP CLICKING ON ARTICLES ABOUT THEM ONLINE
If you want to learn about the latest mega-sensational-outrageous event, fine. Read it once or twice and move on. Don't share it on social networks. Don't "Like" any of the stories. Don't email it to your friends. All that these actions do is increase their knowledge of how much saturation coverage of a local tragedy garners them big ratings (big $$$, in layman's terms).
If they discover that selling snuff is no longer selling as well as it used to, but showing cat pictures from the Internet gets better ratings? You're gonna see a ton of cat photos on Fox News* until the next fad they create comes along.
* or whatever news channel or network you want. Not singling out Fox by itself as they are ALL equally guilty these days. CNN perhaps being the worst.
