anyone know anything about wireless routers?

Noob here thinking of getting one for our house.  So I'm reading that wireless G (is that how you say it? can get interference from cordless phones.  Our cordless phone is on the 5.8 Ghz frequency and apparently wireless G is at 2.4 Ghz.  Will there still be interference?

Our house is 2 stories (2100 sq. ft.).  and our Internet connection is at 5 Mbps.  Will G be good enough for us?  I also know that I need to get wireless USB adapters for each computer.  Thanks in advance!
