Genuinely curious: are the interstitial ads generating that much more revenue than common display?

I honestly don't mind the hassle if they are — I respect that the site in and of itself isn't generating any other revenue (that I can see) — but as user experiences go, having to hit different close options every five pages or so is suboptimal.
