Can I get some trim() action?

Nine times out of ten, when I cut/copy text in Windows and paste into the HSX search box, I'll get a trailing space at the end. The HSX search inexplicitly does not remove trailing whitespace and considers the whitespace as an important part of the string. . .and will say "not found". For instance, if I enter "Jolene " (note space), it won't find the movie. Can you trim() the input in PHP please? I've been meaning to ask this for a year! Thanks.
