A familiar face in several costume dramas, Joan Plowright began acting in the early 1950s, and made her London stage debut in 1954. Through the 1960s, Plowright enjoyed a prosperous and critically acclaimed stage career, winning a Tony for the 1961 Broadway production, A Taste of Honey. After developing a film career through the 1970s and 1980s, Plowright has appeared in such films as 1992's Enchanted April, 1996's Surviving Picasso and 1999's Tea With Mussolini. Plowright was married to Sir Lawrence Olivier from 1961 until his death in 1989.
