Kissing Jessica Stein focuses on a neurotic, New York intellectual (Jennifer Westfeldt). Despite going on a number of dates planned by her friends and family, Jessica Stein remains single. She is a sensitive young woman who finds difficulty in dealing with her brothers engagement and best friends pregnancy.
Having nothing to lose, she replies to a women seeking women ad in the newspaper. Although she is only looking for companionship, the other woman (Helen Cooper) is hoping to have a fling with a woman. Helen (Heather Juergensen), who lives her life as a downtown hipster, is bored with dating men and is ready for a change. On their first date, the two connect and the night ends with a passionate kiss. As their relationship grows, Helen and Jessica deal with contemporary issues dealing with sex.
As demonstrated in such films as Annie Hall and When Harry Met Sally, the film illustrates the connection between friendship and romance. Charles Herman Wurmfeld directs the film written by Heather Juergensen and Jennifer Westfeldt.
