With four new releases failing to attract moviegoers, the holdover Argo [ARGO] rose to the top of the weekend box office with an estimated $12.3 million. The hostage thriller has escaped with $60.8 million.
Hotel Transylvania [HTRNS] grossed $9.5 million to finish second in its fifth weekend of release.
Cloud Atlas [CLATL] opened third with a disappointing $9.4 million. The sci-fi epic drew an audience that was 77% over the age of 25.
Last weekend's top film Paranormal Acitity 4 [PNAC4] dropped to fourth with $8.7 million, down 70% from its opening weekend.
The horror sequel Silent Hill: Revelation [SHIL2] tied for fifth with $8.0 million, far less than the first film.
Fun Size [FUNSZ] debuted tenth overall with $4.06 million, while Chasing Mavericks [MVRCK] opened even worse at just $2.2 million.
