Release Date Shuffle for Award Hopefuls

As the year end approaches, movies with award aspirations are beginning to jockey for positions with different strategies to launch a successful award campaign.   No sooner then The Weinstein Co. delayed The Road [TROAD] from October to Thanksgiving,did Paramount slotted Up in the Air [UPAIR] to expand over the same weekend.   Weinstein already has another award hopeful Nine [NINE] opening on the same date.   While The Road has garnered mixed reviews out of The Venice Film Festival, Up in the Air has generated overwhelmingly positive buzz out of The Telluride Film Festival.  Meanwhile, Paramount/DreamWorks will now utilize a platform release pattern on The Lovely Bones [LVBON] to build up interest over holidays, rather than open in wide release.
