While the rest of the summer box office season continue to fade, Annabelle: Creation [ANAB2] managed to debut with an estimated $35.0 milion, just short of the first Annabelle. The well-reviewed horror film attracted an audience that was 52% female and 56% over the age of 25.
Dunkirk [DUNKR] stayed in second place with $11.4 million, bringing its totatl to $153.7 million.
The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature [NUTJ2] opened at the third spot with $8.9 million, just half the debut of the first The Nut Job. The animated film brought out a crowd that was 57% female and 54% under the age of 25.
Last week's top film, The Dark Tower [DRKTW] tumbled 59% to $7.9 million and fourth overall. The cumulative total sits at $34.3 million.
Kidnap [KDNAP] finished eighth with $5.3 million, down 48% from its opening. The thriller has banked $19.4 million.
The Glass Castle [GLASC] earned $4.9 million to open in ninth place. The drama skewed 80% female and 76% over the age of 25.
