Topping Easter weekend above expectations, The Curse of La Llorona [CHLDN] led with an estimated $26.5 million.  The horror film attracted an audience that was 49% Hispanic, 51% male with 60% aged 25 or older.

After two weeks on top, Shazam! [SHAZM] finished second with $17.3 million, bringing its total to $121.3 million.

Breakthrouth [BRKTH] debuted at the third spot with $11.1 million and $14.6 million since Wednesday.  The faith-based drama skewed 65% female and 70% aged 25 or older.

Hollywood usually avoids the weekend before a blockbuster like Avengers: Endgame, but this weekend happens to include Good Friday and Easter. The holiday weekend should be led by The Curse of Llorona [CHLDN]. Although billed as from the producers of The Conjuring universe, The Curse of Llorona is not set in that world. Orion Pictures has unboxed a second trailer for the horror reboot Child's Play [CHLDP].  Mark Hamill provides the voice of the murderous doll Chucky. Child’s Play arrives in theaters June 21st.

Universal has revved up an extended trailer for the actioner Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw [FAFHS].  Dwayne Johnson [TROCK] stars as American government agent Hobbs and Jason Statham [JSTAT] as British ex-military operative Shaw as the former adversaries work together to take on a genetically enhanced anarchist played by Idris Elba [IELBA].  The Fast & Furious family expands even bigger with the introduction of Shaw's sister, played by Vanessa Kirby, and Hobbs' entire Samoan clan. ...

Fox has cut a final trailer for their final installment in the X-Men franchise, Dark Phoenix [XMEN7]. It's a good thing that Disney will be taking over the Marvel Comics property since the series has run out of ideas that they've remade X-Men: The Last Stand and it looks like nothing was improved. Dark Phoenix descends into theaters on June 7th.

With Star Wars: The Return of Skywalker dominating the headlines, four new films barely made a wave at the box office this weekend.  Shazam! [SHAZM] repeated in first place with an estimated $25.1 million, down 53% from its opening.  The DC superhero has banked $94.9 million thus far.

Little [LITLE] debuted in second place with $15.5 million.  The comedy attracted an audience that was 43% African American, 65% female and 56% aged 25 or older.

Disney has revealed the teaser trailer for  Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker [STAR9], the ninth and final episode in The Skywalker Saga.  Billy Dee Williams returns as Lando Calrissian while Ian McDiarmid lives as Emperor Palpatine.  Directed by J.J. Abrams [JABRA], Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens on December 20th.

Four new films enter the box office arena this weekend, but Shazam! [SHAZM] will prevail again. With good word of mouth, Shazam! should hold 50% of its debut at around $26 million.

After unleashing a string of character teasers, Universal has finally dropped the full-length official trailer for The Secret Life of Pets 2 [PETS2].  Illumination's animated sequel focuses on the "emotional" problems of our furry, four-legged companions.  The first The Secret Life of Pets opened to $104.35 million in July 2016.  The Secret Life of Pets 2 begins in theaters on June 7th.
