Example: starting price $25. A full 100k short would get it to you at $24.90. A short at 25k would get it to you at 24.98. A second 25k
short would get it to you for 24.95. A third 25k, 24.93. And the last 25k, at 24.90. So you're getting all 100k shorted at an average price of 24.94-ish, so you've saved a whole 4 cents per share by going incrementally versus all 100k at once. You're still getting chucked, yes, but instead of losing out on H$1,000, you're only losing out on H$600.
I think my maths is right there.
