As a fund manager, I probably shouldn't be saying this, but Jane's right
Much as I want to encourage people to buy my fund, you don't learn much buying funds. Unless, of course, you study what the fund manager is doing. But the cliche applies: experience is the best teacher. You are going to get burned on a fairly regular basis playing the other securities, as I still am, but that's how you learn.
One strategy is to take big risks, like taking large positions in the OW derivatives, and then studying carefully when something goes wrong. That way you learn very fast.
