Please don't take this personally but this is exactly the kind of thinking that begat those huge unrealistic estimates from so many: it
it assumes that people have "moving-going money" burning a hole in their pocket that MUST and WILL be spent each week. Just because a movie is good and nothing new is competing against it, does not automatically mean people will WANT to see it by default. There are other things in life people can go do if this movie is not their cup of tea. The stuido and others simply assumed too much and over-estimated demand in the U.S. for this movie. THIS IS IT is and will be a success world-wide. But these numbers indicate bad news for domestic box office because you KNOW all the die-hards saw it yesterday. The good news is they still have the weekend to suck the rest of us in. But I'm not going to celebrate my short just yet. Not until I see Friday's numbers. That should be the final nail in the coffin. (no pun intended)
