The Deltas have attended roughly 100 Springsteen shows, from Stone Pony to Soldiers and Sailors, from arenas to stadiums. We've seen Gary Tallent, Max Weinberg, and Steve Van Zandt shows, too. We have at least 100 bootleg recordings of the E Street Band and plenty of outtakes. For the brotherhood of Delta Tau Chi, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band ranks with the Rolling Stones and the Who atop the rock pile.

We will probably watch the Springsteen movie when it streams, and not necessarily when it first becomes available without charge. Nebraska isn't among the top five Springsteen albums, in our judgment. Nebraska features that affected, silly, guttural drawl that still corrodes his performances and that foreshadowed a substantial decline in Springsteen's music. Nebraska was a low point in Springsteen's career, in several important respects. We hope the movie will be as good as the Queen or Elton John movies; we do not expect that. An IMAX release of some great live performances (No Nukes, Winterland, Capitol '78, 3M benefit at the Stone Pony, maybe River 2016, etc.) would likely be much more attractive and illuminative.

The anticipation at places such as backstreets.com has seemed unexpectedly muted.

A Complete Unknown did a pretty slow holiday burn while younger audiences warmed up to it {nm} mr teriffic Oct 11, 11:40
