it would have been a greater cop out to save him. As if we were supposed to forget about all the harsh, uncomfortable emotions because IT'S ALL BETTER NOW :) ... Just wouldn't work to preserve the thematic arc of the pic... The final scene is the ultimate illustration of the doom they work for throughout... but is its own release of sorts. Loved it.
