At the upper end of tornado alley (South Dakota), the landscape is an ocean of grass, you can see 12.8 miles in every direction if not near a river. This lets the winds really get moving when out in the open.
A good "shooting day" is when the winds are under 10mph, which tomorrow looks to be. Even that small wind (10mph) moves a bullet travelling at 3000 feet per second roughly an inch every hundred yards (rule of thumb for kentucky windage). Stretching to 500 or 1000 yards is fun competition if you have the equipment (aneometer, barometer, and shooting computer program on droid/iPhone/iPad) and wind flags every 50 yards to show direction changes through the full distance.
Now you know about a few of my other hobbies. I'd also like long walks on the beach, problem being I'm over a thousand miles from any good beaches. However, as your name is Dave, none of that mattters. :P
