Walt:
I don't think Walt is inherently evil.
He has gone from the nerdy, toothless, powerless, wimpy, "unsuccessful" (relative to his rich old friends and business partners from S1) teacher who got no respect from pretty much anyone to someone who is calm, cool, collected, 5 steps ahead of everyone else (or so he thinks), and people fear him.
He's never had that kind of power, influence, command over people, and money before in his life and he's relishing it. I don't know that he has really taken the time to reflect on how this is affecting other people (such as Skyler, Jesse, Hank, Saul), as well as who it could potentially affect (Walt Jr, the baby, Marie).
At first Walt was doing all this for money to take care of his family while he had cancer and coould potentially die. He had nothing to lose (in his mind), and he wanted to take care of them. He's still holding onto that delusion as the justification for continuing (taking care of his family, rather than cancer/death fears), but he's also got a taste of the power and a much larger world and it's corrupting his morality.
Walt does "what is right (for him)" in the moment, but I don't know that he has an overall bigger picture recognition of what he's doing - much less the effect of the drugs he's producing on members of society. We've been able to see some of these results in Jesse's storylines, but Walt really hasn't been exposed to the human side of it at all - short of Jesse's OD'd girlfriend and her father who caused the plane crash.
Will Walt wake up from his dream or continue on his path? As long as there are no personal consequences that he can't outthink or outmaneuver (he LOVES being the smartest guy in the room), I think he'll keep going.
Until someone that he cares about can hold him accountable and he can't get out of it, he's going to go as far as he can.
Does this make him "evil"? Depends on the definition of evil we're looking at. Has he become a "bad guy"? Yup - no doubt about it, but then again, that's the name of the show!
