Southern Spain was under Muslim rule and was a tolerant society, with Christians and Jews allowed to practice their religions. Then it was conquered by Christian rulers, and Jews and Muslims were either forcibly coverted or expelled.
I don't think you can say "this faith is inherently more tolerant than that one" or "this one is less crazy" based on the way they are practiced now. And you're not going to change the way another faith is practiced by writing its followers off as, say, Christian-haters.
