consideration and thought are the worrisome problems.  I'd rather have someone who is passionate and believes that what they are passionate about is right, and does the work to think through what the proper way to achieve that passionate goal is and what the ramifications are, than someone who does not have that fire and the conviction making half-hearted decisions or allow themselves to be told what decisions to make.  Sadly, it seems we don't have enough of the former and too much of the latter; and even worse, when we do have the former, we too often do our best to mock them or discredit them or ignore them.

I'm willing to consider legislation to limit the acquisition of weaponry that will fire 3 rounds per batch down the road. websch01ar Dec 17, 05:35

Pls note I am not saying to leverage our convictions when making decisions. Rather, it seems folly to rush to make changes just to have websch01ar Dec 17, 07:13

Err...NOT TO Leverage....I encourage people to get involved and take some ownership of a given issue. {nm} websch01ar Dec 17, 07:21

I think it's more correct to say "American voters do not want the measures of gun control that would be necessary to prevent something like RogerMore Dec 17, 08:36

Mexico has more restrictive gun control laws than the U.S....hardly a testament to safety in that country. websch01ar Dec 17, 09:45

I think that's an apples and oranges comparison - Mexico has far lower income levels, weaker institutions, criminals fighting over control RogerMore Dec 17, 10:21

This focus on controlling guns is our attempt to understand and control a situation. It makes us feel better that we have responded. {nm} websch01ar Dec 17, 12:44

thats your opinion. I see it as preventive. Its not like gun control debate just started as a reaction to this (or any) criminal act {nm} Moviesnob Dec 17, 12:49

Gun Control creeps up whenever there is mass life loss like this. To disagree with this notion does a disservice to the topic. {nm} websch01ar Dec 18, 07:26

of course it does, but that doesnt mean the debate goes away between acts of mass killings. if you aren't aware of it, then you aren't Moviesnob Dec 18, 10:23

The point is that gun control is not just about "feeling better". It has clear benefits, in the form of fewer gun deaths, as shown in RogerMore Dec 17, 14:21

I'm not ignoring it. I'm waiting on proof. All you have offered thus far is your opinion. websch01ar Dec 18, 07:23

There's plenty of evidence that the rate of gun deaths is significantly higher in the US than other countries, that gun control is RogerMore Dec 18, 08:34

Controlling guns should be our attempt to protect lives, the same way the Government controls car safety, food safety, drug safety...etc. {nm} Antibody Dec 17, 16:17

There already is gun control legislation. We should work on fixing the implementation of it rather than giving the administration as pass websch01ar Dec 18, 07:25

A complete ban on assault rifles would have prevented higher death toll. {nm} Antibody Dec 18, 09:48
