I think it's also his personality and quirks. He often comes across as know-it-all, smug, adversarial, anti-Internet, kind of sexist, etc
Plus, it's a show about the media, so it probably depicts the media about as accurately as any other TV show depicts a workplace - good enough for a TV audience looking for entertainment, inaccurate to someone who actually works in a similar environment.
And lots of Sorkin trademarks - like the walk-and-talk, quick back-and-forth dialogue, lots of factoids, etc - we have been watching ever since The West Wing, so now they are kind of tired.
Add all this to Sorkin's success, and you come up with a bunch of people hoping he will fail.
