As for "all those hits didn't get seattle very much", one person can't carry a team. Tony Gwynn played 20 seasons, and all his hits only got San Diego two World Series losses and one other post-season appearance. Rod Carew only had 4 ALCS appearances in his 19 year career with all his hits. Robin Yount had 1 WS loss and one other post season appearance in his 20 year career. Fellow Brewer Paul Molitor shared Yount's count, but added a WS title with Toronto in his 21 years. Ken Griffey Jr had only 3 post season appearances in his illustrious 630 HR career.
Throw in the fact that he has been an amazing defender and a plus baserunner, and he's had a remarkable career in the US alone.
