It would require EVERY person to be attached to a bank account or credit card account.  And EVERY person would need to have their own mobile card reader with network access to exchange money between persons (garage sales; tips; donations)

You paid for dinner last night, thanks, let me slide my card into your card reader to pay you back.

Younger kids would need to have a credit card on them so they can buy a slurpee at 7-11?

The power goes out in an area and people cannot connect to their account so they cannot perform purchases.

Sorry homeless person on the corner, you don't have a personal mobile card reader for me to swipe you money.

There are transaction fees that the finnacial institutions charge to merchants and how would that work that I swipe my card at the gumball machine for $0.25 to get some skittles in the lobby of the doctor's office.

Every city and small town would have to replace EVERY parking meter from coin based to card readers with network access.

 

So on and so on...
