Might suggest that one reason Trump is President is because he is the opposite of Obama & Hillary.
Who is in power now, might I suggest, is in direct relation to who was in power prior. As far as cleaning up those? Are you referring to the career political swamp that is Washington? Rome was not built in a day. It takes awhile to expose all of the many Obama executive orders, and mitigate them.
Take DACA just as one example. It is not a law. It was an executive order. One president putting his will upon the country with no legislative authority or representation of its citizens. He just made the amnesty of illegals' a thing. As someone who wishes to have input through my representatives, this idea of one person getting to make national changes all by himself, is more the role of a dictator, or a monarchy. I believe the rumors are that Trump will eliminate this amnesty over a 6 month period, but also allow for our legislature to come up with a governing law that could be something quite different entirely. At least it will be a law and not a decree.
You might see the police eventually becoming assimilated into the military as another form of national guard, or an extension of homeland security because of the lawlessness that has overcome our country. People want to feel protected from the gangs, the drugs, and the pajama boys, so they will eventually demand that police be given the means to protect. If protestors were as peaceful as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was, it might be different. Some of today's marchers are more into throwing rocks, smashing windows and burning cars requiring police to acquire additional resources to deal with those levels of security threats.
Law enforcement standard training is based upon a one plus one principle. Officers are trained to defend themselves one level above what the threat is. If someone verbally threatens you, you use handcuffs. If someone punches at you, you use a baton. If someone throws rocks at you, you use tear gas or a water truck. If someone uses a knife, you use a gun. If someone uses a gun, you use a bigger gun. Mixed in there are the police horses, dogs, and vehicles. Horses don't run into crowds, they walk towards them to move them along. Dogs are not taken off their leashes, they are to keep the threat at a distance. Vehicles need to be such that rocks, bricks, bottles, do not penetrate the vehicle, again for officer safety. They are not asking to be attacked, they are asking that they be able to go home to their families at the end of their shift. Don't let the big truck scare you just because it is going to take up two parking spaces.
