fundamentals so that unskilled, half-educated, character-deprived white males in the depleted backwaters can prosper at the expense of accomplished, high-income, advanced-degreed "elites" in our modern, successful communities.
This has been a useful exercise in some respects. Many Americans in our successful communities had lost sight of the level of disaffection, dysfunction, bigotry, ignorance, and superstition afflicting our can't-keep-up rural and southern stretches. It is always better to understand.
It is imperative that we maintain a solid lifeline for the smart, ambitious young people who wish to escape backwardness- and bigotry-infused childhood environments. We need to help those young people reach our strong liberal-libertarian campuses and our modern communities. No decent person faults a child for having losers for parents, and we need all of the educated, tolerant, skilled, reason-based citizens we can get.
