I noticed that when I started playing with penny stocks.
When you buy about 35,000 shares the price will increase by 1 cent and it you'll be charged the higher price, not the one you clicked 'buy' on. If you buy 100,000 it adds 2 cents and charges you that. Here's a trade I just made: http://imgur.com/a/sdFHB
1. Before I did anything, 200,000 shares traded today, 0.04 current price.
2. The trade screen says I should be charged $6,000 total, 4k for the shares and 2k for commission
3. After the trade but before it had registered in the system. Still says 200,000 traded today.
4. The trade registered, 300,000 traded today so mine are the only shares that affected it. The price is now 0.06 per share.
5. It charged me 6 cents per share and 2,000 in commission on top of that.
Basically it just means that when you buy over 35k shares at a time you're charged an extra cent in commission (and an extra 2 for over ~70k shares).
