Once the stock has adjusted its "unfrozen" and players are free to trade it again and the price is free to move. The only time prices can't move in response to trades is (currently) on the day of IPO. Changes in the number of shares long and short just reflect players trading the stock immediately after the adjust. Remember, there are players who live here and will be ready to trade a stock within a minute of the adjust. Now, if you can show that number of shares changed _after_ the Halt and _before_ the Adjust when the Halt is removed, then there would be a problem.
