Although recent fans of Anthony Edwards may know him for his role as Dr. Mark Greene on NBC's ER, there is still a large Gen X contingent that recalls his less-flattering role as Gilbert Lowe from the Revenge of the Nerds franchise.
But those who snicker at the fact that Edwards was once a notorious nerd must also concede that the early 80's brought the Santa Barbara native some more-flattering credits as well.
Edwards, after all, had the tragic role of Goose in 1986's Top Gun, as well as a small part as one of Jeff Spicoli's Stoner Buds in 1983's Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
In terms of 80's hipness, those two films are tough to top.
Despite the fact that the 90's have turned Edwards mainly into a TV actor, ER has brought him a string of Emmy nominations, as well as a Golden Globe for best actor in 1998.
