Based on the novel by Henry James, The Golden Bowl chronicles American expatriates in Italy who strive to maintain their decorum amidst romantic betrayal. The film is the follow-up to 1997's The Wing of the Dove, also a James adaptation, which earned four Oscar nominations in 1998. The film stars Kate Beckinsale, Anjelica Huston, Nick Nolte, Jeremy Northam and Uma Thurman, and is directed by James Ivory of Merchant-Ivory fame. The Golden Bowl was adapted by acclaimed screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Oscar-winner for such Ivory-directed films as 1986's A Room with a View and 1992's Howards End.
