During the tail end of WWII, the U.S.S. Indianapolis was sunk by a Japanese sub throwing most of the crew into the Pacific Ocean. Hundreds of sailors died from drowning and repeated shark attacks. After the survivors were rescued, the Captain was court-martialed for losing the ship and the lives of so many innocent men. Open Water director Chris Kentis and producer Laura Lau will adapt from the book In Harm's Way by Doug Stanton.
Mel Gibson and Barry Levinson were previously attached to the project, which also went by The Captain and the Shark.
