John McTiernan made his directorial debut with 1986's Nomads, a Pierce Brosnan-Adam Ant film that earned a moderate gross of just over $2 million. The following year, however, McTiernan scored a much bigger hit with Predator, a film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and future Minnesota governor Jesse "The Mind" Ventura. In 1988, McTiernan continued his success with Die Hard, the film that launched Bruce Willis' career as an action star. The 1990's have brought McTiernan considerable success as well, with such films as The Hunt for Red October, The Thomas Crown Affair and Die Hard: With a Vengeance.
