Based on the Sebastian Barry novel, The Secret Scripture focuses on the mystery of why a 100-year old woman has been in a mental hospital since World War II. A psychiatrist finds the answer lie in the 1922 Irish Civil War. Rooney Mara and Vanessa Regrave play the woman at different ages. Theo James, Eric Bana and Jack Reynor co-star in the Irish film directed by Jim Sheridan from an adaptation by Johnny Ferguson.
