The world simply hasn’t been the same since J.K. Rowling published her books about the now famous boy wizard. Harry Potter has swept the world. The film adaptations of Rowling’s books are a phenomena all their own. As the second to the last of the Hogwarts saga opened earlier today at midnight, let’s take a look at the journey Harry has taken into collective pop culture consciousness. The first of the fantasy series ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ was published in 1997. Harry is an orphan who lives with an evil muggles family who treats him badly. One day, he get an invite to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He learns about his parents who perished at the hands of the evil Lord Voldemort, who is now after their surviving child. Harry is a celebrity in the magic world, as he is the only person to survive and attack by the villain. After meeting his two friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, the background is set and now Harry begins his adventures. Through his years at Hogwarts, Harry has solved numerous mysteries involving past students, fended off attacks from Lord Voldemort and participated in a Quidditch tournament. All this magical posturing doesn’t spare the cast of characters from growing pains like being bullied, going to school dances and of course, falling in love. But, what has touched readers most about this story is Harry’s enduring love for his parents and their memory, which always saves him in the worst of times. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [HPOT6] deals with Lord Voldemort as he commits crimes in the “muggles” (regular people) world and the magic world. Hogwarts is rife with activity as people take sides for and against the Dark Lord. Harry learns about Voldemort’s past and along with his friends, prepares to fight the evil one again. While the suspense and tension grows with each book, this writer still called ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ her favorite in the series. Professor Lupine was totally hot and the story arc with Harry’s father is one of the best in the series. So, as Harry marches towards the final battle, send us your favorite characters and storylines at HSXniknak. And for those who will go to see the boy wizard this weekend, remember, he’s in his tender teenage years.
