Universal has confirmed the news first reported on Wednesday by Hitfix, Bryan Singer will produce and direct the feature adaptation of Battlestar Galactica [BGALA] based on the 1978 TV series. Singer was originally involved with the relaunch of Battlestar Galactica as a new TV series, before Ronald Moore took over and produced the reimagined BSG series that ran from 2004-09 on the Sci-Fi Channel. Originally derided for altering the original series, BSG won over fans with its strong character development and storylines that parallel current events. Bringing the popular Singer on board should placate BSG fans who think it's too soon, if even ever necessary, to make another Battlestar Galactica.
In other semi-Singer-related news. Variety reported that the Wolverine sequel [WOLV2] will be scipted by Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects as well took uncredit rewrites on X-Men. Variety also reported that the heirs to the Superman creators now control the story of Superman's origin as Kal-El from planet Krypton who arrived on Earth as a baby. That would indicate Warner Bros. may be forced to make the next Superman [SUPR2] movie a sequel to The Superman Returns rather than reboot the franchise. Unless of course, they decided to make up a whole different origin for Superman. They're not stupid enough to mess with a well-establish mythology, are they?
