Scoring the fourth biggest opening weekend of the year, Minions [MNION] banked an estimated $115.2 million, the second best animated opening of all time behind just Shrek the Third at $121.6 million in 2007. The Despicable Me spin-off attracted an audience that was 59% female and 55% under the age of 25.
Jurassic World [JURA4.BW] remained in second place with $18.1 million in its fifth weekend. The monstrous sequel has amassed $590.7 million.
After a one-week stay at the top, Inside Out [NMIND] dropped to third with $17.1 million to bring its totatl to $283.6 million.
Terminator: Genisys [TERM5] finished fourth at $13.7 million, down 49% from its debut. The sci-fi sequel has earned $68.7 million.
The horror film The Gallows [GALOW] debuted fifth overall with $10.0 million, while the sci-fi film Self/Less [SLFLS] bombed at eighth with $5.8 million.
Magic Mike XL [MGCM2] held an exceptional 75% in its second weekend to chart at sixth with $9.6 million.
