With no new wide releases from the major studios, the Labor Day holiday was led for a third time by The Hitman's Bodyguard [HTMBG] with nearly $13.4 million. The action comedy has totaled $58.1 million.
Annabelle: Creation [ANAB2] remained in second place at $9.3 million to bring its 4-week sum to nearly $91.0 million.
Wind River [WNDRV] climbed a spot to third with $8.0 million, up from last weekend. The rural thriller has banked $20.4 million.
Leap! [LEAP] slipped down a rung in its second weekend to $6.6 million. The animated film has earned $13.1 million.
The 40th Anniversay of Close Encounters of the Third Kind [CEOTK] grossed $2.3 million to finish outside the top 12.
Tulip Fever [TULPF] wilted and died with just $1.4 million, less than the $1.5 million debut from Hazlo como Hombre [HAZLO] in half the theaters.
