The nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards were announced earlier today. Joker led the way with 11 nominations. The Hollywood Stock Exchange offered NominOptions for the leading contenders in the top eight categories and HSX traders collectively successfully predicted 84% of this year’s Oscar nominees. Here's how each category broke down.
Best Picture named 9 nominees this year: 1917 [N0P191], Ford v Ferrari [N0PFVF], Jojo Rabbit [N0PJOR], Joker [N0PJOK], Little Women [N0PLTW], Marriage Story [N0PMAR], Once Upon a Time in Hollywood [N0POUT], Parasite [N0PPAR] and The Irishman [N0PIRS]. HSX got 8 right, going with Knives Out instead of Ford v Ferrari.
The Best Director nominees were Bong Joon-Ho – Parasite [N0DBJH], Martin Scorsese – The Irishman [N0DMSC], Quentin Tarantino – Once Upon a Time in Hollywood [N0DQTO], Sam Mendes – 1917 [N0DSME] and Todd Phillips – Joker [N0PTPH]. HSX picked 4 out of 5, favoring Greta Gerwig – Little Women instead of Todd Phillips.
The Best Actor nominees were Adam Driver – Marriage Story [N0AADR], Antonio Banderas – Pain and Glory [N0AABA], Joaquin Phoenix – Joker. [N0AJPH], Jonathan Pryce – The Two Popes [N0AJPR] and Leonardo DiCaprio – Once Upon a Time in Hollywood [N0ALDI]. HSX went 3 out of 5, picking Robert De Niro – The Irishman and Taron Egerton – Rocketman instead of Antonio Banders and Jonathan Pryce.
The Best Actress nominees were Charlize Theron – Bombshell [N0CCTH], Cynthia Erivo – Harriet [N0CCER], Renee Zellweger – Judy [N0CRZE], Saoirse Ronan – Little Women [N0CSRN], and Scarlett Johansson – Marriage Story [N0CSJO]. HSX went 4 for 5, missing Cynthia Erivo with Awkwafina – The Farewell.
The Best Supporting Actor nominees were Al Pacino – The Irishman [N0RAPA], Anthony Hopkins– The Two Popes [N0RAHO], Brad Pitt – Once Upon a Time in Hollywood [N0RBPI], Joe Pesci – The Irishman [N0RJPE], and Tom Hanks – A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood [N0RTHA]. HSX scored a perfect 5 for 5.
