Sony has uploaded the first teaser for the insiprational drama Soul Surfer [SOSRF] based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton, played by AnnaSophia Robb [AROBB], who lost an arm to a shark attack. Interestingly, the shark is nowhere to be seen or heard in the trailer which plays off more like a music video. It's a wise marketing strategy as moviegoers have been shown to be squeamish with the similar themed 127 Hours.
Sony has released the full, theatrical trailer for Battle: los Angeles [BATLA], just the latest to imitate the horns of Inception. With its documentary-like camera work and focus on gritty realism, the sci-fi film plays off like an American remake/spin-off of Sony's own District 9. MGM and Eon Productions have announced a release date of November 9th, 2012 for the next James Bond film [JB23] that will pick up the story after Quantum of Solace. Daniel Craig [DCRAI] returns as the British secret agent 007. Sam Mendes [SMEND] will direct from a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. MGM recently emerged from bankruptcy with the heads of Spyglass Entertainment taking control of the studio.
Sony Screen Gems has cut a new trailer for the supernatural, sci-fi western Priest [PRIES]. Paul Bettany [PBETT] plays a warrior priest who breaks his vows with the Church that rules the dystopian cities in order to venture outside to rescue his niece from a pack of vampires.
After finishing in second for two weeks in a row, the western remake True Grit [TGRIT] overtakes Little Fockers [MPRN3] to top the weekend box office. True Grit collected an estimated $15.0 million to advance its total over $110.43 million. Little Fockers dropped down a notch with $13.8 million, bringing its cumulative gross to nearly $124 million.

The first two new wide releases of 2011 appear to offer little competition for the last two or three hits of 2010. After finishing in second place for the last two weekends, True Grit [TGRIT] has been topping this week’s daily box office. The western remake has great word of mouth and award buzz. A decline around 40% decline would bring in $15 million, which should be enough for True Grit to ascend to the top spot.

While the British have already gotten a couple of trailers for the comedy Paul [PAUL], Universal is just now giving American moviegoers their first lookat Apple. Simon Pegg [SPEGG] and Nick Frost [NFROS] from Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead reunite as two sci-fi geeks who accidentally meets an alien, voiced by Seth Rogen [SROGE]. Together, they embark on a crazy road trip across America while pursused by government agents. Paul hits theater March 18th.
