Speaking from my experience, a fund manager is a trader who has grown their port to at least H$100M and has put their name forward to DMac to either take over/resurrect an existing fund or with a good idea for a fund of their own. I know there are instances where specific traders have been approached to either start or take over fund, but I think it is mainly traders who wanted a new challenge.
