well it should be obvious that if you pick wrong, you lose.
IMO, the options are just a gamble. They are typically cheap so going one way, if you can make the guess fairly high in its probability, you are going to come out on top most often than not.
Of course if you do not feel confident, then you shouldn't play certain options. Like Chef said above, plug some numbers in and see if you are willing to risk whatever amount of money on your options.
At the end its fake money so, :) dont get too caught up in it. (i.e. you can get the 50k bonus the next week anyway)
