Comission Free Saturdays were technology based.
Back then many players had access to high speed internet at work and then only had slow dial up on the weekends, so HSX was comission free on Saturdays to encourage players to continue participating on the weekends.
Now, most players have high speed internet access at home (and/or thru mobile devices), so the comission free Saturdays have been discontinued.
(The comission free Saturdays were also leading to massive day trading which caused major disruptions in stock prices and stock movements; distorted the historical data; and really confused most players).
