Not sure if this is what you mean: to get rid of something you have shorted you need to COVER

There are 4 transaction alternatives:

1- You BUY when you think something is gonna go up in price.

2- You SELL to get rid of something you bought.

3- You SHORT when you think something is gonna go down.

4- You COVER to get rid of something you shorted.

You can short a stock or security if you think the price will DROP... if the price goes up, you lose $$.... Flash Jul 09, 09:06
